Photo of moi in Joshua Tree National Monument many moons ago and enclosed, a work-in-progress. Needed to make a long overdue blog entry. It’s been taken over by bots and persistent spammers like Eric who know how to attract visitors.\u00a0 So busy of late! But c’est la vie. It is also good and more social as we slowly emerge from two years of you-know-what. Every visit or event is a reunion! Going downtown this evening after rehearsal to see dear friend Soressa Gardener in performance at an outdoor concert at the Vancouver Art Gallery.\u00a0 Rock on and remain well my pretties!<\/p>\n

CAMOUFLAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

The land is a mother that never dies.
\nWho said that? Victor would know.
\nVictor\u2019s mother videotaped her will,
\nfarewells and tenderness immortalized.
\nA good son, the sort of son I would be fortunate
\nto conceive one day, a fine young man
\nwho shared everything, especially his apparitions.<\/p>\n

Blackbird red against a sky wall of dust,
\npaper doll shrivelling in firewater,
\nglass-eyed deer head in earthquake debris,
\nan angel face in the snow. Yours!
\nGray whale shadow on the incoming tide.
\nGila monsters, boulders and yucca trees.<\/p>\n

He took me to the sleeping giant desert,
\nto hear with my own ears thrumming
\ndeep within bells of pale blooms,
\nsprouted in the fossils of mammoths,
\nsloths and giant bears.
\nLook down. Beneath our feet. Treasure!<\/p>\n

Look up, past your head. Condors bend boughs,
\nthe light a diaphanous linen sheet.
\nBeats! From within, from without.
\nBequests. People being people must conjure up gods
\nthough red army ants conquer these hills each day.
\nHe took me because I forgot to leave.<\/p>\n

The city. See, it\u2019s painless. Let\u2019s live here,
\nin that cloud-cloaked cottage of stone,
\nkit foxes for neighbours. Look at the way she moves
\nthrough the chaparral! Loping, then bounding,
\ncoat the colour of sand, invisible to golden eagles.
\nCloak me Victor. Please. Provide camouflage.
\nYou\u2019re the only soul who can.<\/p>\n
