I think of the future, my son, my one and only precious offspring and wonder what I’ve gotten him into. At 27 he is in no hurry to settle down and have children. Certainly I don’t blame him. I was so ambivalent about the decision that I didn’t give birth until the last possible minute. A good decision, it turns out. He will never be one of my regrets. I do suffer grandma envy though. Who knows. The future is unwritten. Apparently I must write about it. And as uncertain as it is, can only speculate.<\/p>\n

\nthrough university, its Olympic sized pools.<\/p>\n
\nsuspended within an excruciating wait
\nfor \u201cquiet diplomacy\u201d to kick in,
\nwhile others populate
\npandemic frontlines in hot spots
\nIndia, Brazil and the U.S.<\/p>\n
\nThere is no time to collapse
\nthough we must seek stress relief
\nand quality sleep; eight hours
\nevery night. Seven minimum.<\/p>\n
\npriests, evangelists, titans,
\npolice and politicians
\nevery other generation conceived.<\/p>\n
\nmedia personalities and content creators
\ncan save Mother Earth.
\nI suppose that qualifies as hope.<\/p>\n
\nThat\u2019s what this sweet old orb
\nis to me and my generation,
\nthe generation young folk
\nare relieved to see dying off,
\nfor they are more
\nthan mere descendants,
\nthey are redeemers.<\/p>\n
\nin parts of the world.
\nPerhaps our descendants
\nare our mothers.
