Poetry. That’s all I got. I’m thankful for the escape writing provides and still, do seize the day. My psyche must favour the inherent irony of “good as dead”. I’ve used it in Houla<\/em> in Skookum Raven. <\/em>I’m considering replacing “hooks” with “talons.”\u00a0 More work to do, thank gawd, not that I believe in god.<\/p>\n

AS GOOD AS DEAD<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unless the court directs otherwise
\nThe parties are named
\nSweet edified spouse,
\nSalty street-wise co-respondent;<\/p>\n

Coolish if not cool,
\nIf \u201ccool\u201d is still cool to be.
\nStill, all three parties wince
\nAt infelicities, clumsy speech.<\/p>\n

She is a galaxy viewer,
\nEspecially at night,
\nScarce as a hinny,
\nOr a bedmaker.<\/p>\n

Each morning dammit,
\nBefore leaving the apartment.
\nAn atypical good habit
\nWhich surely makes no difference.<\/p>\n

A longtime waiver of claims,
\nAcquiescent you might say,
\nAnd lately, a sniffler.
\nSomething in the air?<\/p>\n

Upthrust, untagged,
\nMissives lost in the ether,
\nPetitions kiboshed,
\nAppeals squashed,<\/p>\n

Letters sonnetized,
\nShe hangs her sentiments
\nAs if a body in the limbs
\nOf a leafless tree, the gibbet.<\/p>\n

Gallows humour intact,
\nThe only thing left to do
\nIs remove his hooks,
\nGodsent or not.<\/p>\n
