It&#8217;s all I&#8217;m able to write lately and it&#8217;s saving my ass, my sanity, as annus horribilis 2020 barrels on, though I can identify with poet Alice Oswald in the New Yorker article, <em>Streaming Device.<\/em> \u201c&#8230;she defined her art as a form of dissidence. &#8216;I think it\u2019s often assumed that the role of poetry is to comfort,&#8217; she wrote, &#8216;but for me, poetry is the great unsettler. It questions the established order of the mind. It is radical, by which I don\u2019t mean that it is either leftwing or rightwing, but that it works at the roots of thinking.&#8217; I know I depend on poetry to incite.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BIG SMOKE CREATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As un-germinating or misproducing<br \/>\nAs the city may be,<br \/>\nI dazzle myself,<br \/>\nCompose in a tweedy, eyeletted coat,<\/p>\n<p>Follow insectian leads;<br \/>\nGut-slide \u00e0 la caterpillar,<br \/>\nDig earwig-deep into a yellow rose,<br \/>\nBee-imbibe hummingbird nectar.<\/p>\n<p>By day I am girded<br \/>\nBy a kaleidoscope of plumage,<br \/>\nBy night bathe in coconut milk<br \/>\nIn a most nonepicurean way.<\/p>\n<p>With the power to prepave the future,<br \/>\nI eschew crapulence,<br \/>\nPantomime to the blind<br \/>\nDespite my tiny apartment window.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Verse.
