In the past I would have run away, though I am seriously considering moving to the Cariboo. “I hate this fucking place!” I feel so hemmed in by the constant racket of various types, the astronomical rent and cost of living. But perhaps it\u2019s just urban life. I miss the woods. I need a vacation! The world needs a vacation. And we aren’t about to get one anytime soon. Again, hold fast my pretties. And as BC’s Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry says,” Be kind, be calm, be safe.”<\/p>\n

CALAMITY JANES<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are the beleaguered,
\nThe beleaguered are we.
\nEach one of us, beleaguered.
\nEach day, week, month, year;
\nBeleaguered with corona virus
\nOr tuberculosis or autism
\nOr leprosy or slipped disc
\nOr clubfoot or schizophrenia
\nOr acne or blindness
\nOr polio or chlamydia
\nOr angina or endometriosis or diabetes.
\nPlus, depression.
\nWe beleaguered are beleaguered
\nBy tornado, earthquake,
\nVolcanic eruptions,\u00a0tsunamis, forest fires,
\n40 days and 40 nights of flood.
\nPlus, anxiety.
\nWe are beleaguered by riots, misogyny, poverty,
\nRacism, mass shootings or unwanted pregnancy.
\nPlus, oops.
\nWe are beleaguered by sugar, tobacco,
\nOpioids and alcohol.
\nPlus, whatever gets you through.<\/p>\n

2020 requires we delegate
\nWeeping, triage burials,
\nBattle over ventilators,
\nBattle over battles,
\nSequester ourselves,
\nSustain and administer strength,
\nSwabs, masks, compassion.
\nSilence disquietude.
\nConquer enervation.
\nWoo fate.
\nAdapt or die
