I am stoked to be one of the 75! Three of my poems, including Voracious<\/em>, will be featured in the\u00a0FORCE FIELD-<\/em>75 Women Poets of British Columbia<\/em> anthology, edited by Susan Musgrave, published by Mother Tongue<\/a> and coming in April, 2013. From their press release: “Not\u00a0since Dorothy Livesay\u2019s ‘Women\u2019s Eye, 12 B.C. Women Poets’- AIR Press, in 1974, and ‘D\u2019Sonoqua, An Anthology of Women Poets of British Columbia’, edited by Ingrid Klassen-Intermedia Press in 1979, has there been an anthology of contemporary B.C. women poets.<\/p>\n

Gathering is an art that women do well, and as Jean Mallinson stated in her introduction to D\u2019Sonoqua, \u201cAnthologies are a sign of vitality.\u201d In FORCE FIELD<\/em> we gather together seventy-five women poets who currently live and write in British Columbia so readers can more\u00a0easily share, study and take pleasure in the range and vitality of women\u2019s poetry today. It is an extensive and flourishing community that owes a debt to many early women poets, such as P.K. Page, Dorothy Livesay, Anne Marriot, Phyllis Webb, Rona Murray, Skyros Bruce, Gwladys V. Downes, Pat Lowther, Helene Rosenthal, Nellie McClung, and\u00a0Elizabeth Gourlay. Women who forged the way for poetry in mid-century B.C., between working and mothering, struggling, transforming and creating. FORCE FIELD is a strong celebration of women’s voices, from\u00a0emerging to established. FORCE FIELD is not a definitive, but a wellspring.<\/p>\n

A kiss.<\/p>\n

Coral. Incandescent.<\/p>\n

We wanted a kiss.<\/p>\n

We wanted a moment<\/p>\n

of, no one knows us.<\/p>\n

In a hovel or the firs<\/p>\n

we wanted a moment<\/p>\n

of, no one watching.<\/p>\n

We wanted a ride,<\/p>\n

the roiling innards.<\/p>\n

We wanted a night.<\/p>\n

One night, to escape<\/p>\n

the ether, the library,<\/p>\n

all that shushing.<\/p>\n

We wanted more<\/p>\n

than one season<\/p>\n

of abundance.<\/p>\n

He has entered text<\/p>\n

red as a target,<\/p>\n

invited a stoning,<\/p>\n

but, we are very bear.<\/p>\n

Mewling accomplice<\/p>\n

pawing at the door,<\/p>\n

I track charred meat<\/p>\n

from bower to suite.<\/p>\n

From a fly coastal trip<\/p>\n

drenched in dark highway,<\/p>\n

through a fuming winter<\/p>\n

of snarling heat,<\/p>\n

to blasted spring robins<\/p>\n

and lilacs blaring perfume,<\/p>\n

we have muzzled nothing,<\/p>\n

growling in the gut wicked<\/p>\n

as songs loud as our heads,<\/p>\n

deafening aches<\/p>\n

silent as screen voices<\/p>\n

deep at night.<\/p>\n

1<\/div>\n

Smoked out,<\/p>\n

files burned,<\/p>\n

anointed with ash,<\/p>\n

we are fallout.<\/p>\n

Ruthless particulars<\/p>\n

roaming summer,<\/p>\n

lapping up<\/p>\n

bare mounds and berries,<\/p>\n

moving and moved<\/p>\n

by shattered outcrops,<\/p>\n

words of praise,<\/p>\n

generous mouths.<\/p>\n
