until crushed by despair,
\nfatigue of the repetitive kind,<\/p>\n

a nostalgic young adult
\nneeding a fix<\/p>\n

for the ceaseless crick
\nin my neck stiff with deadlines.<\/p>\n

It was time to become awful,
\ntruly awful, beyond whiny nuisance.<\/p>\n

As entertaining as scrolling,
\nslumming came naturally.<\/p>\n

Nothing like the frisson
\nof secret knowledge to inspire,<\/p>\n

my trophy skin
\na transdermal channel to oblivion.<\/p>\n

A whisper of fentanyl =a boom of TNT.
\nAh, progress. How far we\u2019ve come<\/p>\n

from slugging rum to facilitate
\namputation on the battlefield<\/p>\n

to a substance so potent a whiff
\ncan dispatch an EMT.<\/p>\n

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat,
\nforget that I am mortal<\/p>\n

until the hazy downpour of squalor
